Quo Vadis, America? This was the title of Venerable Fulton J. Sheen's first-ever telecast of his renowned show Life Is Worth Living. It harkens back to Petrine legend. St. Peter encountered Christ while fleeing persecution in Rome. The Lord appeared to Peter and said, "Quo vadis, Petre?" "Where are you going, Peter? I am going to Rome to be crucified." Peter realized he was running from his apostolic mission and returned to Rome to embrace his own cross, literal and figurative. 

In this troubled post-Christian society, we must ask as Fulton Sheen did, "America, where are you going?" Let us build up one another in Christ, embrace our own crosses, and reshape America in His image.
